Elgar at the Piano

In this concert David Owen Norris investigates how Elgar created his greatest ideas at the piano, reconstructing the recorded improvisations by ear; and he explains what Elgar meant when he said: ‘I scramble through things orchestrally in a way that would madden with envy all existing pianists’. With performances of Elgar’s own arrangements of The Dream of Gerontius, the first inkling of the Cello Concerto, a bit of Pomp & Circumstance, and of course the great Concert Allegro.
